A Cookbook with Bite
by Amy Shamroe
Once upon a time there were two sisters. One was very sweet. One was a bit saltier. When they conspired, the results were… delicious.
“While one sister oversaw all recipe development, the other took care of the writing and look of the book. Throughout the process, we laughed together non-stop…truth told, so long as we’re together, we’d have fun in a paper bag,” Julie Albert shared. Julie is the salty sister and editorial maven. Her slightly sweeter sister, Lisa Gnat, has the culinary streak.
The result of their efforts is one of the most vibrant and exciting cookbooks you will ever see. Bite Me: A Stomach-Satisfying, Visually-Gratifying, Fresh-Mouthed Cookbook delivers all that it promises. The images are colorful and creative. The recipes are mouth-watering and varied- from Bread Soup to Beef Bourguignon.
“A cookbook called Bite Me isn’t meant to blend or be a shrinking violet in an already-crowded landscape of shellacked chickens, precious pictures and darling descriptions,” Julie says of their creative take on a traditionally dull medium. “One turn of the page and it’s immediately evident that we’re all about having fun in the kitchen.”
These ladies don’t always play by the book though. Give Julie some feta cheese, caramelized onions, or a fresh picked herb and her creativity is boundless. Especially fresh herbs, “…there’s no comparison to the garden-grown herbs…the smell is intoxicating and ever inspiring, especially that of basil, thyme, rosemary and mint.”
Surely, some of these creative adventures will appear in future volumes. The dynamic sisters are still collaborating and have future projects in the works. One look at Bite Me and you too will celebrate this news.
